Yung MTG Preps New Mixtape!!!

The track above(click on the link to dowload) is by Montgomery,AL based rapper Yung MTG. He has release two albums already, although not highly successful. But has recieved some hype and feedback from major labels. He took the criticism he recieved from those albums and starting perfecting his craft. Upon landing a magazine interview with Krank it up Magazine he recieved more exposure and increased his fan base and buzz in the industry. In the summer of 2009, he released his chart topping single “Stronger” with the help of the producer Vybe. When I recieved the tracked, I was a little skeptical at first. But after listening to it, I can describe the track as "Ace Hood rapping over a Eminem hook!" I think that he provided "raw" delivery over a damn-near classic hook. Even if you don't like the verses, you'll can find yourself singing along to the chorus. I personally can't wait to hear more. So for those of you like me, Yung MTG is prepping his new mixtape “Billionaire Boys Club” hosted by Dj P Exclusivez, set to launch on Thanksgiving Day. He is also in the studio working on his 3rd album, set to drop in the 1st quarter of 2010.

*The pic above is also from a recent photoshoot for the mixtape. I will be sure to upload more when I get them.

Slept On: Lil Mama

We all may have been throwed off by the Lil'Mama, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys thing on stage @ the VMA's but here's a video of Lil'Mama singing Alicia's song "No One". We all know that Lil'Mama debut flopped and was watered-down with bubble gum pop..."Lip Gloss"??? But anywho, the single was a hit. And we can't deny that she put out pure fire on the "no music" part of the video. We also saw her as a dancer in the "G-Slide Tour Bus" video and watch her give advice and critic on ABDC. But who knew she was a dancer, rapper, and singer, and equally talented in all three. A triple-threat for sure. But what is it that's holding Lil'Mama back from being a top artist. Is it her northern roots, her personality, or her style? But talent-wise she's gettin slept on. Its take a really good vocalist to match the voice of Alicia Keys. Sidenote: The video was release well before the VMA performance. She was just paying homage, right? So what's your opinion...

Exposure!!! Exposure!!! Exposure!!!

Singers, rappers, dancer, producers, songwriters, etc. know that they have to be the best in this industry to even get any kind of deal. Even if that deal flops. You have to offer an unfit label, just as much as you do any solid indie or major label. Labels today are accepting artist now-a-days that do everything themselves. If you're an already packaged artist its quicker to get your album out. Soulja Boy, for example, got his deal after coming up with a catchy songs, loading videos up all the time, keeping in touch with his fans, and promoting his ass off. That cannot be denied. But what Soulja Boy has been criticized for is being a 1 hit wonder and his lack of substance. At the same time, Soulja Boy is now following in the trail of the Gucci Mane. Gucci Mane has been hyped-up my mixtapes(similar to Lil'Wayne) and its also the certain weirdness that he possesses(similar to Lil'Wayne). The reason I say similar to Wayne is because we all know that we sometimes confuse ourselves listening to what they both are saying, but its hot. Rite or wrong??? That same weirdness radiates throughout Rihanna and Lady Gaga. Anywho, all of these artist are smart and they have great teams behind them. Its easier though, for a rapper to continue his career after a commercially failed album than it is for a singer, even harder for a r&b artist. Hip Hop is dominated by males, lack of female rappers putting out material right now. And nobody can explain why. R&B is dominated by 1 female and that is Beyonce. Although Ciara is a close contender. Keri Hilson is dominating radio because of her versatile writing and singing ability, and the hype built up from her before she got a deal. And all of these ladies put in work. We know that. So when you get ready to make your mark on the industry, how much work will you have put in. Of course, there are those artist out there who get deals just because of famous family members. And many times have no talent whatsoever. A good producer can make anyone hot!!! Auto-Tune is dying no time soon because of that fact.

Any unsigned artist or talents looking for exposure. Who don't know where to start in this industry. Who are looking for advice. Who are looking for criticism. Who are trying to get discovered. This is the place to be. Send in your stuff, be it promo material, mixtape/album covers, new singles, tracks u want feedback on, a bio about yourself, or your website links. I promise that in 2010, a featured artist from Unlimited Universe will get contacted by a label. I wrote the passage above to kind of give you my insight on the industry(as I will do often). Cuz if you don't understand what I stand for, then there is no need for you to follow me.

Slept On: Tiffany Evans

Okay!!! Slept On is a feature of the site where I post a video or pics of an artist thats already in the game but not gettin the respect that they deserve. They are being "slept on!!!" And my 1st featured slept on artist is Tiffany Evans. You first paid attention to Tiffany when you saw her in Tyler Perry's movie, singing "Father Can You Hear Me". Her major label debut was produced by Ciara, but didn't yield any major sales at all. Although she had everyone singing the pre-teen friendly "Promise Ring." But the video below showcases her true vocal ability. Singing Beyonce's "Halo"!!!

Lil'Boone: Best Teen Rapper Mixtape

This is the cover of Montgomery, AL own Lil'Boone's Best Teen Rapper Mixtape. This mixtape dropped on Monday and its sure fire. Lil'Boone is a 19 year old rapper from Montgomery,AL. This is his hugest mixtape to date. He's put a lot of hard work into it. The mixtape boasts the best blend of hip hop and r&b. Throughout the mixtape you'll find yourself wondering "is this cat a rapper or a singer." The answer is both. You ain't saying nothing nowadays if you ain't doing two or more things in this industry. The mixtape is not a national one, but it offers high quality tracks that go with an equally high quality cover design. In my opinion, this is a solid artist, who offers more than the corniness of Soulja Boy and a fews bars under the talent of Drake. He's the best in his own right. With the right label and team under him, he's sure to be more than just a one hit wonder, as he has proven locally. To listen to more of his music, such as that featured on the mixtape and hit single "La La Land" visit myspace.com/lilboonemusik. Approved!!!

Unsigned Universe: The Beginning

Unsigned Universe(UU) is the newest #1 spot for unsigned recording artist looking to get their big break in the music industry. Although I do not work in the music industry. I know that it takes equally hard work to get into the industry on the corporate side as it does trying to be an artist. I love music, just as much as I love promoting, and helping others out. This blog is dedicated specifically for that. Its designed to give up and coming artist a boost and a chance to be heard by other outside of their local area. The internet is the biggest gateway to new music and new talent. A downside to that though is record sales and the new trend of 1 hit wonders. I prefer artist with substance and that is what Unsigned Universe is going to promote.

New look, layout, and features coming really really soon!!!
